Frequently Asked Questions Before Booking Your Family or Newborn Session
Booking a photography session is such a special investment for your family, and it’s completely normal to have lots of questions beforehand.
Over the years, there are a few things families ask me most often — so I thought I’d answer them here to help you feel more prepared and relaxed before your session 🤍
“What should we wear?”
This is one of the most common questions I receive, and please don’t worry — I’ll guide you through it.
I always recommend soft, neutral and timeless tones that photograph beautifully and keep the focus on your family connection rather than busy patterns or logos.
The most important thing is choosing outfits that feel comfortable and true to you.
Once your session is booked, you’ll receive styling guidance to help make the process feel simple and stress-free. You will also have access to my client wardrobe. More information on this can be viewed here.
“What if my children don’t cooperate?”
Please know there is absolutely no expectation for children to sit perfectly still or smile at the camera the entire time.
My sessions are completely relaxed and child-led.
Some of the most beautiful images come from:
- cuddles
- movement
- laughter
- little in-between moments
I gently guide your session while allowing space for your children to simply be themselves.
“When should newborn sessions take place?”
Newborn sessions are ideally booked during pregnancy to ensure availability and are usually photographed within the first few weeks after birth.
However, beautiful newborn images can absolutely still be captured beyond this stage too.
The most important thing is documenting this special season before it passes so quickly.
“What if we feel awkward in front of the camera?”
This is something I hear so often — and almost every family says this before their session.
Please know you do not need to know how to pose or what to do.
I’ll gently guide you throughout the session in a way that feels natural and relaxed, focusing on connection rather than stiff posing.
My goal is always to create an experience that feels calm, effortless and enjoyable.
“How far in advance should we book?”
I always recommend booking as early as possible, particularly for:
- newborn sessions
- weekend bookings
- maternity sessions
Availability can become limited throughout the year, especially during busy seasons.
At the heart of every session is simply capturing your family as you are right now — the connection, love and little moments you never want to forget.
If you’ve been thinking about booking your own session, I’d absolutely love to hear from you 🤍
